Request AppointmentWhat Is a Contact Lens Exam?
A contact lens prescription goes beyond a standard eye exam. While both exams assess your eye health, a contact lens fitting also considers the specific shape of your eyes. Unlike a glasses prescription, a contact lens exam provides the right fit and comfort for your eyes. During a contact lens exam, we:
- Assess your eye health and overall vision needs.
- Measure the curvature of your eye to prioritize a proper fit.
- Discuss your lifestyle and preferences to recommend the best lens type for you.
What to Expect During Your Contact Lens Fitting
A proper fit is essential for both comfort and eye health. During your fitting, we’ll:
- Check that the lenses rest comfortably on your eyes without causing irritation.
- Provide guidance on how to insert, remove, and care for your lenses.
- Offer trial lenses so you can experience the fit and feel before committing.
Contact Lens Hygiene & Care
Caring for your contact lenses is important to avoid discomfort or infection. Follow these tips for safe wear:
- Wash and dry your hands before handling lenses.
- Clean and store reusable lenses as directed.
- Never wear lenses beyond their recommended duration.
Types of Contact Lenses We Offer
Contact lenses typically fall into 2 categories: soft and rigid gas-permeable (RGP). Specialty lenses are also sorted into these categories. We offer several lens types to help address various vision issues.
Like your glasses, contact lenses correct refractive errors such as myopia, hyperopia, presbyopia, and astigmatism.
Our team works closely with you to determine what types of lenses can help with your current eye care needs.
Scleral Contact Lenses
Scleral lenses provide a unique solution for patients with irregular corneas, keratoconus, or severe dry eye.
Unlike traditional contacts, these large-diameter lenses rest on the sclera (the white of your eye), creating a smooth optical surface that offers vision clarity and comfort.
The fluid-filled reservoir beneath the lens also hydrates your eyes, making scleral lenses ideal for those seeking relief from dryness or discomfort.
MiSight Contact Lenses
MiSight 1 day lenses are soft contact lenses designed to manage myopia progression in children. These lenses help correct and slow myopia progression in children aged 8–12 at the start of their treatment.
MiSight lenses are safe for children and can be a good alternative if your children don’t like wearing glasses. They are also designed with your children’s comfort and ease of use in mind.
Aspheric Contact Lenses
Aspheric contact lenses are designed with a flatter, more gradual curve than traditional lenses, providing sharper vision and reducing distortion. These lenses are especially beneficial for people with higher prescriptions, as they offer a more natural, wider field of view.
The unique shape of aspheric lenses helps improve comfort and reduce glare.
Multifocal Contact Lenses
Multifocal contact lenses contain multiple prescriptions to correct multiple vision issues in one lens. They’re often recommended for those with presbyopia and other refractive errors, like hyperopia or myopia.
With multiple prescriptions in a single lens, you can comfortably switch between activities, such as reading or driving, without changing your contacts.
Toric Contact Lenses
Toric contact lenses are specially crafted for people with astigmatism, a condition where the cornea is irregularly shaped. These lenses provide vision correction by offering different powers in various meridians of the lens.
Toric lenses are designed to stay in place and maintain vision, offering comfort and stability throughout the day.
